nail polish remover left stains after removing stickers?

Okay so, my computer died and since I’m getting a macbook, I have no use for my flat screen monitor. I had a couple of winnie the pooh stickies and a crayon band-aid (unused, haha..don’t ask!) that I used nail polish remover to remove them. They came off, but then I realized the silver plastic part around the screen of the monitor now had these light colored stains from the nail polish remover that i can’t get rid of with a damp towel and some soap!! I was hoping to maybe sell the monitor but now it looks like its dunzo! who wants a monitor with nail polish remover stains outlining Piglet, a butterfly, a flower, Winnie, and a crayon? Hah! any help is appreciated! thanks!

Yep anything plastic or painted will react badly to strong chemicals and you picked one of the strongest unfortunately. There isn’t a LOT you can do but if you are desperate you could try 1) spray painting it (cover every single thing except what you want sprayed 1st and clean the areas to be painted well 2) using the same nail polish remover on the rest of it, if it is just a slight discoloration, but that isn’t something I would recommend. LASTLY and this i would consider, cop a loss and ebay it, explaining what has happened, I desperately need a 2nd monitor for my childrens computer so wouldn’t mind at all that it has a slight imperfection, you may just get $10 – $20 less when you sell it – probably the best idea so you don’t further damage it, just include very detailed description and pics so buyer is well aware of what they are buying and can’t claim they didn’t know, so don’t want it after auction ends. Good Luck! PS: olive oil removes stickers with patience just put some on let it soak in for 10mins then wipe off firmly with a cloth- and won’t damage plastics
