If all else fails, try this:

If you have leftover carpet, great. Use this. If not…cut a piece of replacement carpet from a place no one will ever notice, like from inside a closet.

Cut the stained area out using a razor knife.

Put the stained piece on a piece of paper and trace around it. Cut this out and use it as a template for the new piece.

Glue the unstained piece in place using waterproof glue.

The repair should be invisible when you’re done.

If u spilled nail polish, which I did once the whole bottle, use carpet cleaner and one of those ruff bristle brushes to get it out. scrub hard.

try acetone in closet area first then to your stain

Try a little spot on the carpet first to see if it will affect the color. If it doesn’t, give the nail polish remover a try. My personal experience with nail polish on a carpet is that it never completely comes out. I recently moved out of an apartment and gave up a portion of the security deposit due to a nail polish stain on the carpet. I tried a lot of things to remove it. Nothing worked.

I don’t think that it will bleach out the carpet but it may melt the carpet depending as to what type of fibers/material were used to make the carpet. Test it in an area where it will not be seen if the carpet gets ruined by the nail polish remover.

Here is a solution I used for getting out dark cranberry nail polish from light grey carpet. Yes, I used nail polish remover and it didn’t fade my carpet; however please do a spot test in a hidden area first with a Q-tip to check for fading. Dab some on, let sit for 5 minutes then soak up with a damp paper towel. If there appears to be no color change, proceed below!

Depending on the type of carpet, this is what you do. If yours is just regular carpet (i.e. strands of yarn sticking up), first you scrape off the top (hardened) layer first. Do this either by hand (picking/peeling off the bigger pieces) or using the dull side of a butter knife.

Next, snip off the stained tips of the carpet with manicure scissors. Be careful not to cut too much; you don’t want it there to be bald spots on the carpet. ;)

Lastly, blot any remaining stained areas, including any that’s seeped deeper into the carpet, with q-tips or cotton balls soaked in nail polish remover. BLOT, DON’T RUB! You will gradually see the colour leave the carpet and get soaked up by your cotton (have lots of clean ones handy).

Hope this helps. It’s a time-consuming solution, but worth it if you’re anal-retentive about doing a good job :)
