Acetone will not ruin your nails over time because it is so highly volatile that it will evaporate before it can damage the nail. Excessive and prolonged use may cause your cuticles to get a little dry, but that’s quickly and easily resolved by putting some lotion on your hands.

As for taking off polish and not getting it all over your finger, there are a few things you should make sure you do and don’t do. Do NOT scrub the nail. You want to get a cotton pad soaked with acetone remover. Don’t soak the ENTIRE thing, or you’ll just waste remover, as it will evaporate before you can get to each part of the pad. So just soak an area large enough to go over your nail with acetone. Hold it onto your nail for a few seconds. You can GENTLY move the cotton back and forth, but only a VERY little bit. After those few seconds, keep pressing down and pull the cotton pad down the length of your nail and off. Repeat this process until all of the polish is off, but use a fresh spot on the pad each time. Don’t go over it again with the same spot that you just used.

The idea is to not let the polish move from side to side or up and down and touch your skin.

First, polish on a clear polish and let it dry, then put on the color polish. This prevents it from staining the nail!

Use a clear coat before you put your polish on or you can take your polish off with pure acetone. Be careful with acetone though, it can ruin your nails over time!
