unexplained laundry stains?

I have been getting random oil stains on my family’s clothing off and on. It doesn’t seem dirty until it comes out of the washing machine, and at first I thought someone had left chapstick in their pocket or something, but I check and it still happens. The stains are small and circular, and they come out with spray and wash or stain stick. I just don’t know if it could be a problem with the washer, and if so, is this something easily fixed?

My washer did the same thingt. After some detective work, and many stains, I determined that a gasket was leaking where the agitator comes thru the tub. The oil stains were always on the clothes on the bottom of the load. As the washer spins the water out, the oil is spread along the bottom of the tub.

I placed a layer of old towels at the bottom of each load, but with agitation they always moved from the bottom, and clothes were stained anyway. I finally resorted to buying a new washer to solve the problem.

The way to check whether it’s the washer is to run a wash cycle with only one item in it that you know hasn’t anything in the pockets and is clean to start with. If that stains, then yes it’s the washer.

You can buy stuff (ask local retailer) you run through the washer on an empty, 60 degree +, cycle that cleans out limescale etc. Actually, makes sense to do this first, then run wash with only one item, as above.

Otherwise, call the washer manufacturer or a nearby retailer and ask.

its called cage marks, caused by either overloading the machine or a partially blocked lint trap. clean the trap then run a programme through the machine with no clothes in and half a cup of bleach. Make sure it rinses well.

Sounds like you have an oil leak inside the washer – have it checked because you could end up ruining your clothes
