What are the best cleaning & laundry tips for cleaning up cat urine so that it doesn’t stain or smell?

Stupidly I let a stray cat that's been hanging around my house a few weeks into my mudroom/laundry room last night to sleep (it seems to be a housecat because all it wants is to be petted and come in, but I have dogs who won't like a cat in the house). Well, I overslept this morning and found out that the cat had peed on the floor and on some laundry. I know cat urine is difficult to clean (it's a male cat too so I don't know if that matters) and that proteins in it can cause stains, so, who has the best tips on how to launder my clothes and the best cleaning solution to mop up the floor? I was thinking PineSol disinfectant with some baking soda for the floor. As for the laundry, I don't know. I know heat can set stains in/bake them in, so I wanted to get some help before I go and ruin clothes. Thanks in advance. (No need to tell me never to do that again because I'm not letting in any more strays from now on).

    Cat urine is probably one of the most difficult stains to remove. You must act very quickly. Pat dry as much as you can with a clean, absorbent towel, then use white vinegar on the spot. Flush out or keep using clear cold water to rinse out.

    Cat urine is difficult.. a little color safe bleach may help..Also try to add some oxy clean.

    I have used a product called Natures Miracle, works very well, I have an older cat that has had a problem getting to her box. It may take a few times of using it, but it works. I got it at Pet Co. but most pet stores carry it. Good Luck

    Any cleaner with enzymes in it…….! You can find it at pet stores or restaurant supply sotes………good luck.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    For the laundry, I'd try some Lestoil, directly on the stains, and a small amount of bleach in the water for dark clothes, and a normal amount for whites. The Pinesol should work on the floor, depending on what kind you have. If vinyl or linoleum, it may leave it a little slippery, if cement it may darken due to porosity.

    Neutralize pet urine odor with deluted white vinegar (25 percent vinegar to 75 percent water) spray on carpets. always test in an inconspicuous spot before treating a large area. urine is highly acidic so it may discolor the fabric. This might be corrected by sponging the stain with ammonia or vinegar rinse thoroughly and launder.

    Definitely get the Nature's Miracle and follow the label directions. It's the ONLY thing I've found that really works.
