My dog had a little wet poop accident on the carpet. The stain came out fine, however, the smell is still there. I have carpet cleaned it twice, febreezed it and nothing is covering up/making the smell go away. what can you use to get the smell out? thanks :)

Never use febreeze or other fragrance detergents on pet vomit, urine, feaces etc! Also no peroxide, vinegar, bleach etc. Make a mix of clothes washing detergent and water, put enough on the carpet to soak right through to the underlay, wipe up and then hoover. If you have baking soda or bicarbonate of soda in the house, sprinkle some of that over it and leave for twenty minutes before hoovering. Smell gone! You may need to air the room out a bit though as well. The washing detergent gets rid of the fat and protein deposits which create the smell, the baking/bicarbonate soda neutralizes the odour and gets rid of any left over stain in the underlay.

This happened to my dog..but it wasn’t our house…it was at our friends house…on her $1,000 chair….and she is a dog trainer. You don’t know how mad she got! :) We helped clean the stain out, but the smell was there, so she used her cat litter. That somewhat helped. Then we tried some baking soda. It finally worked. Hope this helped!

The guy who cleans our carpets regularly gave us a little tip for pet odor…use a little liquid fabric softener on the spot…rub it in and then steam clean the area. I would suggest doing a test area to make sure the type of softener you use doesn’t "color" your carpet. ( i use snuggle)

Go to the pet store and get a product called Nature’s Miracle. I use it and have never had a problem with the smell still being there.
