What is a good deodorizer/cleaner/stain remover for pet owners?

best stain removercleaning suppliesjanitorial suppliesremoving stains

My sister is moving in with me and she’s bringing her dog along. I don’t have a problem with the dog but I do have a problem with dog smells.

Can anyone recommend any products to help with dog odor/stains?

I don’t mind the dog I just don’t want my house to smell like it.

Also, I was thinking of getting a steam cleaner/vac. Would that help with the smell?

Nature’s Miracle is great to remove the stains and odors. Fabreeze or Oust make it smell good (this is especially if you are having company). I dog-sat for a lady who had five dogs – two older ones who had incontinence problems – and she had a little steam cleaner, I think it was called a Spot Bot or something, you just sat it down on the stain and it has brushes that moved around and it did the soaping and everything all on it’s own. It was extremely handy, but I believe they are fairly expensive.

Another option would be to limit the area the dog is allowed in – for example, our dog is only allowed in the living room on special occasions, and then only in our laps or on her rug.

Proper training will also make living with the dog a more pleasant experience. If it isn’t already trained, you might want to consider taking it to some obedience lessons. They can give you hints to train potty-train the dog better so there are less (or ideally no) messes. Of course you will still have to deal with fur – but good grooming and frequent vacuuming will help with that.

    Good luck!

my animals leave a lot of stains in my house too. i use a steam cleaner and it works quite well. If the pet does leave smelly stains [urine for example] use vinegar. It works very well.

I have a dog, also have an issue with a home smelling like a dog.

Yes, steam vac helps with vomit stains. Wetting the carpet too many times, a carpet professional will tell you, is not so great for the life of the carpet. Vacuuming often is best.

    Nature’s Miracle helps with mishaps.

We have owned dogs and cats for years and people always comment that my house doesn’t smell of the animals so here is what we use and what we do. First is realize the kind of dog you have. Is it real big, real hairy, very old, does it have accidents, does it have a lot of saliva…like a boxer or bull dog? Big animals have big smells, animals who have problems will make stains so you decide.

Here are a few rules: Keep the dogs well groomed and clean. That is key. No mushy food, makes dogs have bad breath…if the dog does have bad breath, have its teeth checked….good food is key. Feed the dog a carrot a day. Good for cleaning teeth. Use as few rugs as is possible. Rugs hold smells. If the dog goes on the sofa or bed, make sure you vacuum the sofa often and the rugs as well.

Finally, when there is an accident I use a towel to blot up the wet spot, then put cold water and blot that up…then use Natures Miracle. I like Resolve for the rugs. Lastly….Walk the dog a lot and you will have very few accidents….and a nice smelling house. Good luck.

    Hello,

Most removers are liquid but be sure to get a non toxic cleaner for the safety of everyone and dogs. Here are some tips to help you out in getting a pet deodorizer:
