What is the BEST carpet stain removing cleaning product?

We are moving out of our apartment and have stains in the carpet. We really don’t have much time to sit around and figure out what works and what doesn’t, so I am hoping you guys can help me out!

What is the best carpet stain removing cleaning product? Is it easy to find at a larger store such as Wal Mart? What types of stains did you have and how long did you have them before you used this product? Was the stain completely removed?

    I’ve had overall good luck with using Simple Green to clean my carpets. The downside is that is does foam a bit and you need to rinse with just water in the machine to keep the carpets from feeling stiff. Pre-treat the stains with a 50/50 mix of the cleaner and water and let t hat soak for a few minutes. Taking a scrub brush to the stains certainly won’t hurt either! Might have to treat them a couple of times before they are gone.

    My other suggestion for stains that the Simple Green doesn’t remove is a laundry pre-treating product. I use Shout for laundry stains and have found that it removes food stains on the carpets pretty well. Once again, spray, scrub and then rinse with the carpet shampoo machine. And work in several directions over the stains.
