Before spending money on expensive products try pouring distilled white vinegar in the affected area, let sit for 5 minutes and soak up the excess vinegar with a towel. As it has probably soaked through the lining, make sure you use enough to penetrate it, and then stand on the towel to get as much of the liquid out of the carpet.

I used to do home health care for a bed-ridden individual, and if you left the catheter open, it would leave a horrible mess. This is how we were able to keep the house smelling good. Though the vinegar stinks it kills bacteria and neutralizes odors as is dries.

If there is any spattering on the wall, get a regular sized spray bottle and fill it with 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, 1/3 cup vinegar and the rest with distilled water. Just spray and wipe down… not too hard (you don’t want to pull the paint off the wall). This is not only a very mild disinfectant it also is an amazing window cleaner!

    Good Luck!

I have four cats and have found nature’s miracle to be the most effective in removing urine stains and odors in carpets. It can be found at most pet stores (I usually go to pet smart or petco). You just squirt it on and rub it with a towel. I have found it sooo effective that I use it for all other spills and spots too!

OdoBan and sprinkle the carpet with baking soda heavy. Let it sit for a while then vacuum. Spray with OdoBan again.

Will night lights help? a trip wire to an alarm? Something to either wake him or you!

Suggest you remove the carpet and put down tile or linoleum. Then depending on son’s age, make him clean it up.

just a suggestion since it seems he urinates in the same corner all the time ( at least that is the impression i get) what about putting a pail in the corner

I agree with the Nature’s miracle. It’s a pet product, so you’ll find it at the pet store. The thing is, it’s an enzyme so it takes a little while to work. I have also found that about the second day, it STINKS, then the smell goes away, and the urine will have been broken down. You can also steam clean/shampoo the carpet using Nature’s Miracle, although straight nature’s miracle is a bit better. Follow the instructions, and don’t worry about the bad smell on day too! I’ve gotten out urine (cat, and dog which are smelly) and diarrhea (dog). It’s a great product, only a bit expensive. It probably wouldn’t hurt to try the vinegar, then try the nature’s miracle if that didn’t work! Good luck!

Unfortunately you might have to rent a steam cleaner. The smell has seeped into the padding and it will also hold the urine. You need a machine that will clean and be able to suck up the moisture from the padding.
