What is the best way to remove dog urine stain/odor on carpet?

I just moved into my new house with carpeting. At night, one of them goes out into living room and pees. She is probably acting out due to move. No accidents during day. I will now lock her in room with me at night, but how do I get stains out.? HELP!

To really get rid of the odor/stain so that she will not smell her urine there and do it again and again you need to use a product that you’ll find at pet stores, such as PetSmart or PetCo. It not only removes the odor for YOU, but it removes it for THEM so that hopefully it won’t happen again. Try walking your dogs about an hour before bedtime, too, for as long as you can… not only will it wear her out for the night but it’ll give her the chance to whiz before bedtime. I wish I could tell you the actual name of the product, but I just don’t remember it… sorry! But if you go to the store and tell them your dilema they will help. I had a Pit/Lab mix that did the same thing til I bought that stuff.. it works like a charm!

The best thing to do is to catch it right away before it dries. Soak up as much of the urine as you can with paper towels. Then pour white vinegar, use only WHITE vinegar, on the stain and blot that up as well. The vinegar will get rid of the smell and the stain.

Sometimes I will even pour water on the spot, after I blot up as much of the urine I can, just to dilute the area some more before doing the vinegar step. Blot up the water before adding the vinegar. This will step will definitely get rid of the stain.

Your carpet will have Scotchgard on it, so it shouldn't stain. Just use a lot of paper towels and blot, blot and blot some more!

Be sure not to rub, or you will ruin the carpet! Blot only!!!!!
    Good luck!

What “themom” is referring to is an enzymatic spray stain/odor remover. You can also find it in the pet section of your local supermarket. Any brand works well. We’ve used it on both dog and cat urine.

I use Odoban. You can get it in petstores, Wal-mart, Tractor Supply, and I’m sure many other places. My own vet uses it as well.
