What is the best way to remove pet (dog) urine stains from the carpet and to break him of this terrible habit?

My dog is 8 years old and has begun going to the bathroom very consistently in one area of the carpet. It is ruining the carpet. Along with answers to help with removing the stain I would appreciate any helpful hints about breaking this bad habit he has developed. It is always when we are asleep or gone that he does this so I don’t catch him when he goes and it is to late to discipline by the time I find out he has done it again.

Put some WHITE vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the area, don’t soak it. Then using a white rag or paper towel place of over the spot where the dog pee’d after and let stand for about 2-4 mins. then press the rag firmly or step on the rag to absorb the urine. This will also help eliminate or reduce staining as well as prevent the dog from going there again. ** Get into a routine with your dog by taking it outside to a certain area to do it’s thing….even if it means you stand there for 15 mins, do it. Trust me I have been through it with my 2 dogs and it worked. Good Luck!

well… this is strange.. but when u c that there is a new stain, bring ur dog over 2 the stain and point at it and tell ur dog not 2 do that.
make sure 2 take ur dog outside more often and about the stain part… try using A LOT of soap and water, really dig deep into the carpet 2 get rid of the stain.
    hope this helps! good luck!

has he always been consistent with his housebreaking before? seems like you mentioned two different possibilities, being left alone as well as age or medical issues.probably a visit to the vet regarding a possible urinary tract infection-causes urination problems,as well as seperation anxiety. Nature’s Miracle is a very good product, also requiring you to cover the spot with tin foil, not allowing him to go there again-Yeah!-like he wont move it.how about a crate when your not home?

That new Urine be gone stuff works really well .. It will be hard to teach the pup not to go in the house till the smell is gone they usually like to mark the same places.

rub his nose in it and smack his butt with a rolled up newpaper…….he will remember, i promise……the best thing to clean it up with is called nature miracles, u can get it at petco or petsmart, its in a red and white bottle, a lil pricy but it works very well. it removes the stain and the smell. i warn u thou u will smell it worse after u spray it on there but that means its working.
