Go the your local janitorial supply place and get whatever they sell. also, use the following method, it seems to do the best job at getting rid of the smell…

Pet stains are organic, so an enzyme product for pet stain removal is essential. There are a number of good quality carpet cleaning sprays made specifically for organic stains (they work on the stuff your kids leave behind too!). You don’t need to buy a specialized ‘pet urine cleaning product’. Find one you like, and keep it on hand. If you don’t have any – now is a good time to get one. You should be able to find something appropriate at the local janitorial supply store, or a pet store.

Spray the product on the stain. Once the spot is sprayed as per the directions, add this extra step – it makes all the difference:

For complete pet stain removal, cover the entire spot with a plastic bag. Leave it there overnight, or at least 12 hours. This gives the enzymes plenty of time to do their ‘work’ of digesting the organic residues. Some time the next day, remove the bag and allow the air dry. I am warning you now that this will likely really stink!

Once the area is dry, continue with the finishing directions on the cleaning product. I liked to shampoo the carpet and then do one last pass with a rinsing solution of water and vinegar.

    Good luck!

    URINE OFF

  3. Paul says:

Pet urine penetrates through the carpet backing, the pad, and on to the floor. Enzymes purchased at pet store are the best bet for the do it your selfer. Instead of a plastic bag, as recommended, use a damp white terry cloth towel or wash rag and pat it down over the treated urine stain. Mix the enzyme about 10 to 1 with warm water before pouring on to the stain. Place the damp cloth over the stain and allow everything to dry. The urine will wick up into the cloth while the drying process is going on. You then can rinse with white vinegar if you like. Look for the source of the urine and put a stop to this bacterial growiing contamination. Take charge of your home, if you have pets, and they are the source of the urine problems, it is time to put a stop to it. The ammonia gases coming from the alkaline salts during high humidity, will ruin your olfactory senses and you will no longer smell the odors, your guests will fall over at the door. Some one may suggest to put Bleach or a Laundry Product on your carpet. They are to strong and will damage the carpet dyes permanently.
