The most important thing to remember to keeping clothing white, is to use bleach only every now and then. Bleach can grey or yellow your whites over time.

With dark, black colors, add a few glugs of white vinegar in the rinse cycle. A glug is when you pour a liquid and it goes "glug". :-)

As far as getting stained from the soap, make sure you are turning on the washer, then adding your detergent, allowing it to disperse, before you add any clothing or linens. Always do this in the same order for anything you are washing.

    Best of luck!

I’m assuming you’re American from your spelling but if by some chance you are a UK citizen I recommend Woolite liquid, the one for darks is still great on whites and keeps colours bright. There is no marking of clothes as it’s a liquid and you can always add Vanish Oxi Action powder to whites if they need brightening up. Even if you are American maybe these products are available over there and for the record the washing machines are so much better in America than the UK and I am very jealous! (hopefully this doesn’t make me sound really nuts)

i usually use a couple of tablespoons of hyrogen peroxide. i also like baking soda for helping detergents work better. use vinegar to the rinse water. sounds crazy, but it works

Try using either baby detergent like ivory snow or natural scent free and dye free detergents like bio clean, nature clean, simply clean, purex sensitive is excellent as well. Tide and gain are way too strong for everyday wash and wear clothes. They are best left to use for heavily soiled items like sheets, jackets, jeans etc.. All you need to buy is a clear liquid soap and good stain remover that you can rub on to any stains. Always use cold water when washing colors and the hottest temp. water for whites. Hydrogen peroxide is a good substitute for bleach.
