All of my clothes and things are being ruined by these little spots all over the place!

    I’m having the same problem!
It could be one of 2 things:
my brother’s tip is to let the water run, and add detergent to it, as opposed to pouring it on top of the clothes.
secondly, try diluting your liquid fabric softener with water, i think that may be causing the stains.
if you use a top loading machine, it may be a good idea to look around crevices for trapped grease. this is residue from the fabric softener, and we found a tonne of it. looks like tar and needs to be scrubbed with a toothbrush…nightmare!
to remove those strange spots, i used a common household disinfectant such as DETTOL. blot your stain with a cotton dipped in disinfectant, and then re-wash. somehow, it works?!

It is probably due to the use of fabric softener. Fabric softener works by depositing a waxy substance on the fabrics, thus making them feel softer. It also makes fabric flammable and less stain resistant.
An easy solution to the problem is to use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. It’s much better for your clothes and is a lot cheaper too.
